Pray for the United States of America

Posted by Rev. David Heaukulani, Ph.D., D.D. on June 9, 2016 at 1:45 PM Comments comments (0)

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ our Lord. Lift up the country of the United States in prayer for protection at the borders from those who wish to destroy the freedom to worship in peace. Pray that the election of the next president of the country will provide a wise and moral person to lead this country. Amen.

False Prophets = by R C Sproul

Matthew 17:15-20 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits”

Following His call for us to pursue the narrow way that leads to salvation. Jesus warns us to beware of false prophets in today’s passage Just as there are two ways, one of salvation and another of damnation, so too are there only two kinds of teachers: true ones and false...

Praying Without Preaching

Matthew 6:5–8 “When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (v. 6).

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus assumes new covenant believers will maintain the old covenant practices of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting. It is not if we will give to the needy but when (Matt. 6:2). Fasting is spoken of similarly (v. 16). Finally, Jesus describes ...

Do you have a "warm soft wind" also?

"Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out."

Song of Solomon 4:16

Anything is better than the dead calm of indifference. Our souls may wisely desire the north wind of trouble if that alone can be sanctified to the drawing forth of the perfume of our graces. So long as it cannot be said, "The Lord was not in the wind," we will not shrink from the most wintry blast t...

"Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord."

Exodus 14:13

These words contain God's command to the believer when he is reduced to great straits and brought into extraordinary difficulties. He cannot retreat; he cannot go forward; he is shut up on the right hand and on the left; what is he now to do? The Master's word to him is, "Stand still." It will be well for him if at such times he listens only to his Master's word, for other and evil advisers come with their suggestions. Despair whispers, ...

A Blessed Easter to All

"With his stripes we are healed."

Isaiah 53:5

Pilate delivered our Lord to the lictors to be scourged. The Roman scourge was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were inter-twisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of bone inflicted fearful laceration, and tore off the flesh from the bone. The Saviour was, no doubt,...

Do not be forsaken

Posted by Rev. David Heaukulani, Ph.D., D.D. on December 13, 2012 at 3:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Matthew 27:45–50 “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabacthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’” (v. 46).

Because the process of crucifixion is foreign to our experience, it is easy to overlook just how terribly painful this method of death was. It could take days for the crucified person to die from a combination of asphyxiation and exposure. People were hung on a cross in a po...
